HiPeople’s Dr. Jantje H. de Vries on Knowledge Tests

What are knowledge tests?

Knowledge tests are assessments used to judge an individual's comprehension of the various aspects of a specific role. As such they mainly test the hard skills a candidate needs to perform in a certain position or role.

For example, a knowledge test might assess:

  • Programming languages
  • General language tests
  • Technical knowledge such as Microsoft Excel or Figma for Design
  • Role-specific knowledge you need to know, for example as a software engineer or account manager

At HiPeople we provide more than 50 knowledge tests for a large range of roles.

How do we create our knowledge tests?

We find the best experts in the field, give them a brief on what the test will be assessing and let them build the tests.

Then, we invite other experts to review and validate the tests to ensure we provide the best quality- always.

All of the questions are ranked so that we can provide a broad range of difficulty. For example, for language tests, we provide a choice of basic and advanced skills tests.

Ensuring quality of our tests

The HiPeople Knowledge tests are regularly updated and follow a double blind-review process, which means reviewers don’t see who created the test.

When should I use knowledge tests?

You can use knowledge tests at any stage of the hiring process, but they may be most useful early on. However, knowledge tests do not replace a technical interview or a working sample.

Together with other assessments such as soft skills or cognitive ability tests, knowledge tests provide you a holistic first impression of your candidate!

We wish you every success using HiPeople knowledge tests to hire the best talent. Happy hiring!
