HiPeople’s Dr. Jantje H. de Vries on the Big Five Quick Screen

What’s the Big Five Quick Screen?

The Big Five Quick Screen is based on the MINI-IPIP, which is a tiny-yet-effective measurement of the Big Five Factors of Personality. It focuses on these elements:

  1. Neuroticism (negative emotion, anxiety, vulnerability, irritability)
  2. Agreeableness (altruism, empathy, cooperation, politeness)
  3. Conscientiousness (organization, industriousness, diligence, constraint)
  4. Extraversion (positive emotion, enthusiasm, sociability, assertiveness)
  5. Openness/Intellect (imagination, intelligence, curiosity, creativity)

Studies have shown consistent and acceptable internal consistencies which makes the Big Five Quick Screen a psychometrically acceptable and practically useful personality measurement.

What does the Big Five Quick Screen look like?

The Big Five Quick Screen contains only 20 items and takes approximately five minutes to complete. It’s therefore an extremely practical and efficient way to gather insights into how candidates behave in a work context, helping you predict job performance and company fit.

It’s particularly useful for job which involve:

  • Sales
  • Project management
  • Planning
  • Customer success management
  • Marketing roles

When should I use the Big Five Quick Screen?

Personality assessments can be used at any stage of the hiring process - including after you’ve made your hire! They’re great to help you get to know candidates but also for your existing employees to build thriving relationships in the workplace.

Happy hiring!
