HiPeople’s Dr. Jantje H. de Vries on Culture Add

What does ‘Culture Add’ mean?

An organization's culture is shaped by the beliefs and values of its employees. By definition, "Culture Add" means that each individual shapes a company’s culture by contributing their own values and beliefs.

So how does "Culture Fit" play a role?

We understand culture fit as the overlap between the values of the company and those of the individual. Science emphasizes that our beliefs and values matter in our everyday work and directly influence a candidate's job performance.

Scientific background to our Culture modules

Our collection of Culture Add Values offers plenty of customization to find out what really matters to your candidates. The collection of values is inspired by widely used scientific frameworks, such as Schwartz's Theory of Basic Human Values and the Organizational Culture Profiler.

Let's take a look at some examples;

- Innovation: Measures how important innovation is to applicants. For applicants who value innovation, it is important that new ideas are brought to the table and that original and creative thinking takes place.

- Adaptability: Measures how important adaptability is to applicants. For applicants who value adaptability, it is important that people are willing to change in order to suit different conditions.

How do we assess the Culture Add modules?

For the Culture Add modules we use a multi-method approach. For example, next to Likert Items we use forced-choice (FC) response formats in which respondents have to decide between two or more items. These modules will then be ranked. This way, we improve data quality in high-stake settings by minimizing biases such as social desirability.

When to use the Culture Add assessment?

HiPeople offers assessments for different stages of the hiring process (Quick Screen, Check and Deep Dive).
